🙏 SOAP DEVOTIONAL
SOAP: scripture, observation, application, prayer
Today’s SOAP Devotional by Jacob Coyne
S - SCRIPTURE: Psalm 130:3-4
If you, O Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you.
O - OBSERVATION:
This psalm humbles us in the presence of God’s holiness. We are reminded that if God held every sin against us, we would all fall under the weight of our guilt. The psalmist acknowledges that no one can stand before a holy God on their own merit. But God doesn’t leave us there—He extends forgiveness. His forgiveness isn't just a "get out of jail free card." It’s meant to transform us, to lead us into awe and reverence, stirring our hearts to serve Him. We don’t serve God because we are afraid of punishment, but because His forgiveness draws us into deeper love and devotion.
A - APPLICATION:
When was the last time you really considered the weight of your sin? Too often, we gloss over our faults, thinking, “I’m not that bad,” but this psalm tells us the truth: without God’s mercy, none of us could stand. Our sins are real, and the consequences are eternal, but here’s the beauty—God’s mercy is greater. We are forgiven. This truth isn’t just to make us feel better; it’s meant to change how we live. What areas of your life need to be surrendered to Jesus because of this forgiveness? Let His mercy humble you, and out of that humility, let a fire rise up in your heart to serve Him with everything you have.
P - PRAYER:
Father, thank You for Your mercy. I know I don’t deserve to stand before You, yet You welcome me through Your forgiveness. Let this truth humble me, Lord, and draw me into a deeper relationship with You. Help me to live in awe of Your grace, serving You not out of duty but out of love and reverence. Show me the areas where I still need to surrender, and help me live a life that honors the mercy You’ve shown me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
What is a SOAP?
For each day of Bible reading, we do a SOAP devotional to go deeper into the word of God. We always provide an example SOAP from one of our authors, but we highly encourage you to do your own SOAP with today’s reading. God wants to speak to you personally, and will highlight a passage of today’s reading that’s just for you.
Here’s how it works:
S – SCRIPTURE
Physically write out the Bible verse
You’ll be amazed at what God will reveal to you when you
slow down to write or meditate on what you are reading!
O – OBSERVATION
What do you see in the verses you’re reading?
Who is the audience? Is there a repetition of words? What words stand out to you? What is the main lesson or theme?
A – APPLICATION
When God’s Word becomes personal
What is God saying to me today? How can I apply what I just read to my life? Are there any changes I need to make?
P – PRAYER
Pray God’s Word back to Him
If He has revealed something to you during this time in His
Word, pray about it. Confess if He has revealed some sin that is in your life. Take time to thank Him for His goodness in your life.
We hope that you took one step further in your walk with Jesus today. 🙏
