Today’s SOAP Devotional
S - SCRIPTURE: Luke 12:22-23, 31 (NIV)
"Then Jesus said to his disciples: 'Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes... But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.'"
O - OBSERVATION:
In Luke 12, Jesus addresses one of the most common human struggles—worry and anxiety about daily needs and future uncertainties. Jesus gently yet powerfully reminds His disciples (and us) of an eternal perspective: our lives are about so much more than temporary concerns. Worrying robs us of joy and distracts us from our divine purpose. Instead, Jesus points us toward seeking God's kingdom first, promising that when we prioritize His presence and His ways, He faithfully provides everything we truly need.
This chapter is a powerful invitation to trust. Just as God meticulously cares for the birds and clothes the flowers beautifully, He promises even greater care for His children, who bear His very image.
A - APPLICATION:
Be honest—how much of your mental and emotional energy is consumed by worry or anxiety about the future? It's easy to become preoccupied with uncertainties like finances, relationships, or career decisions. However, Jesus invites us to shift our focus from anxious striving to restful trust. To truly live worry-free, we must actively pursue God’s kingdom, trusting His provision and His timing, believing He sees us and cares deeply.
Living worry-free doesn't mean challenges disappear; rather, it means anchoring our hearts in the truth that our God is reliable, faithful, and intimately involved in our stories.
Action Steps:
Identify & Surrender: Write down your top three worries or fears right now. Clearly surrender each one to God in prayer, intentionally releasing control to Him.
Daily Kingdom Focus: For the next week, begin each day by intentionally seeking God’s presence through Scripture and prayer before you engage with your daily responsibilities. Allow His truth to shape your thoughts and priorities.
Practice Gratitude: At the end of each day, write down three things God provided or ways He showed His faithfulness that day. Gratitude shifts our perspective away from worry and toward recognizing God's faithful care.
P - PRAYER:
Jesus, thank You for lovingly reminding me to let go of my worries. Forgive me for times I've trusted my ability more than Your provision. Today, I choose trust over anxiety, peace over worry, and Your kingdom above my fears. Teach me to rest securely in Your promises. Let my heart be confident that You are always faithful. In Your name, Amen.
What is a SOAP?
For each day of Bible reading, we do a SOAP devotional to go deeper into the word of God. We always provide an example SOAP from one of our authors, but we highly encourage you to do your own SOAP with today’s reading. God wants to speak to you personally, and will highlight a passage of today’s reading that’s just for you.
Here’s how it works:
S – SCRIPTURE
Physically write out the Bible verse
You’ll be amazed at what God will reveal to you when you
slow down to write or meditate on what you are reading!
O – OBSERVATION
What do you see in the verses you’re reading?
Who is the audience? Is there a repetition of words? What words stand out to you? What is the main lesson or theme?
A – APPLICATION
When God’s Word becomes personal
What is God saying to me today? How can I apply what I just read to my life? Are there any changes I need to make?
P – PRAYER
Pray God’s Word back to Him
If He has revealed something to you during this time in His
Word, pray about it. Confess if He has revealed some sin that is in your life. Take time to thank Him for His goodness in your life.
