🙏 SOAP DEVOTIONAL
SOAP: scripture, observation, application, prayer

Today’s SOAP Devotional

S - SCRIPTURE: 1 Corinthians 5:7 (NIV):

"Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch—as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed."

O - OBSERVATION:

Paul's words here are sharp and direct, urging the Corinthian church to cleanse themselves from the corruption of sin. The "old yeast" represents the pervasive and corrupting influence of sin that can spread through a community if left unchecked. Paul reminds us that because Christ, our Passover Lamb, has already been sacrificed, we are called to live as the new, pure, unleavened batch—holy and set apart.

There's a deep invitation here to examine our lives, both individually and as a community. The grace of God doesn’t just save us from sin but empowers us to live free from its influence. We aren't just forgiven; we are transformed, made new, and called to live in that newness without compromise.

A - APPLICATION:

In the quiet place of prayer, let’s take time to examine our hearts. Is there any old yeast—habits, thoughts, or actions—that we’ve allowed to linger? The call to holiness is not a burden but a joyful invitation to walk in the fullness of the freedom Christ has purchased for us.

Jesus has already done the work; our part is to step into what He’s made available. When we remove the old yeast, we make room for the Holy Spirit to bring about true transformation. Let’s be a people who don’t just talk about freedom but live in it, displaying to the world what it looks like to be a new creation in Christ.

P - PRAYER:

Lord Jesus, thank You for being our Passover Lamb, sacrificed so that we could live free from sin. Help us to rid ourselves of anything that doesn’t align with the new life You’ve given us. Holy Spirit, reveal any old yeast in our lives that needs to be removed, and give us the grace and strength to walk in purity. May our lives reflect the holiness You’ve called us to, bringing glory to Your name. Amen.

What is a SOAP?

For each day of Bible reading, we do a SOAP devotional to go deeper into the word of God. We always provide an example SOAP from one of our authors, but we highly encourage you to do your own SOAP with today’s reading. God wants to speak to you personally, and will highlight a passage of today’s reading that’s just for you.

Here’s how it works:

S – SCRIPTURE
Physically write out the Bible verse
You’ll be amazed at what God will reveal to you when you
slow down to write or meditate on what you are reading!

O – OBSERVATION
What do you see in the verses you’re reading?
Who is the audience? Is there a repetition of words? What words stand out to you? What is the main lesson or theme?

A – APPLICATION
When God’s Word becomes personal
What is God saying to me today? How can I apply what I just read to my life? Are there any changes I need to make?

P – PRAYER
Pray God’s Word back to Him
If He has revealed something to you during this time in His
Word, pray about it. Confess if He has revealed some sin that is in your life. Take time to thank Him for His goodness in your life.

We hope that you took one step further in your walk with Jesus today. 🙏
