Today’s SOAP Devotional
S - SCRIPTURE: Mark 16:15
“And he said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.’” (Mark 16:15)
O - OBSERVATION:
Mark 16 is the triumphant close of Jesus’ earthly ministry, showcasing His resurrection and the commission to His disciples. Jesus didn’t rise from the dead quietly; He shattered the grip of death, leaving the grave empty. In His final moments with His disciples, Jesus gave them a clear mission: share the gospel everywhere. It wasn’t just a call to action; it was an invitation to live boldly in the power of His resurrection.
The chapter also highlights the disciples' initial doubt and fear, reminding us that even the closest followers of Jesus needed His encouragement to step out in faith. Despite their uncertainty, Jesus entrusted them with the greatest mission: to be His witnesses to the ends of the earth.
A - APPLICATION:
The call to "go" in Mark 16:15 is just as urgent today as it was 2,000 years ago. We live in a world desperate for hope, truth, and life. As wars rage, economies fluctuate, and anxiety grips hearts, the message of Jesus—the hope of salvation—remains the only unshakable answer.
But here’s the beautiful part: Jesus doesn’t just call the confident or the qualified. He commissions ordinary people, even those who wrestle with doubt. Like the disciples, we’re not sent out alone. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in us (Romans 8:11).
What does "go" look like for you today? Maybe it's a conversation with a coworker, praying for a friend in need, or sharing your testimony online. The opportunities are endless, and Jesus promises to work through you as you step out in faith.
P - PRAYER:
Jesus, thank You for the gift of salvation and the power of Your resurrection. Help me to live boldly for You, sharing the hope I’ve found in You with those around me. Give me courage to “go” wherever You send me and trust that You’ll work through me, even in my weakness. Amen.
Challenge
This week, share your testimony with someone who needs hope. It could be over coffee, through a text, or even a post on social media. Watch how God uses your story to bring light into someone's life.
Let’s be the hands and feet of Jesus, bringing His love and hope into a hurting world.
What is a SOAP?
For each day of Bible reading, we do a SOAP devotional to go deeper into the word of God. We always provide an example SOAP from one of our authors, but we highly encourage you to do your own SOAP with today’s reading. God wants to speak to you personally, and will highlight a passage of today’s reading that’s just for you.
Here’s how it works:
S – SCRIPTURE
Physically write out the Bible verse
You’ll be amazed at what God will reveal to you when you
slow down to write or meditate on what you are reading!
O – OBSERVATION
What do you see in the verses you’re reading?
Who is the audience? Is there a repetition of words? What words stand out to you? What is the main lesson or theme?
A – APPLICATION
When God’s Word becomes personal
What is God saying to me today? How can I apply what I just read to my life? Are there any changes I need to make?
P – PRAYER
Pray God’s Word back to Him
If He has revealed something to you during this time in His
Word, pray about it. Confess if He has revealed some sin that is in your life. Take time to thank Him for His goodness in your life.
