🙏 SOAP DEVOTIONAL
SOAP: scripture, observation, application, prayer

Today’s SOAP Devotional - Colby F. Maier

S - SCRIPTURE: 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NIV):

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."

O - OBSERVATION:

In this passage, Paul describes love as more than a feeling—it is a daily action. Love is patient and kind, meaning it gives grace and understanding in our relationships. Love avoids pride, envy, and selfishness. It values the well-being of others above personal gain or recognition. Love does not keep track of offenses or wrongdoing but instead chooses to forgive. It celebrates truth and rejects evil. Lastly, Paul says that love is enduring—meaning it stands firm in hard times, continuing to trust, hope, and protect others, reflecting the type of love that God showed us through Jesus Christ.

A - APPLICATION:

Perhaps you caught yourself keeping track of someone's wrongs or feeling bitter toward them? Today, make an intentional prayer to release any bitterness or resentment you're holding onto, in light of Jesus' love and forgiveness toward us. Consider writing down past offenses you're still holding onto and then tearing up the paper as a symbolic act of releasing those hurts into God’s hands.

P - PRAYER:

Jesus, today we ask for your help in releasing the offenses we’ve been holding onto for so long. Soften our hearts, and give us the grace to let go of any bitterness, resentment, or hurt caused by others. Teach us to forgive just as you have forgiven us, not keeping records of wrongs but choosing to extend grace, mercy and peace. In Jesus name, Amen.

What is a SOAP?

For each day of Bible reading, we do a SOAP devotional to go deeper into the word of God. We always provide an example SOAP from one of our authors, but we highly encourage you to do your own SOAP with today’s reading. God wants to speak to you personally, and will highlight a passage of today’s reading that’s just for you.

Here’s how it works:

S – SCRIPTURE
Physically write out the Bible verse
You’ll be amazed at what God will reveal to you when you
slow down to write or meditate on what you are reading!

O – OBSERVATION
What do you see in the verses you’re reading?
Who is the audience? Is there a repetition of words? What words stand out to you? What is the main lesson or theme?

A – APPLICATION
When God’s Word becomes personal
What is God saying to me today? How can I apply what I just read to my life? Are there any changes I need to make?

P – PRAYER
Pray God’s Word back to Him
If He has revealed something to you during this time in His
Word, pray about it. Confess if He has revealed some sin that is in your life. Take time to thank Him for His goodness in your life.

We hope that you took one step further in your walk with Jesus today. 🙏
