🙏 SOAP DEVOTIONAL
SOAP: scripture, observation, application, prayer

For each day of Bible reading, we do a SOAP devotional to go deeper into the word of God. We always provide an example SOAP from one of our authors, but we highly encourage you to do your own SOAP with today’s reading. God wants to speak to you personally, and will highlight a passage of today’s reading that’s just for you.

Here’s how it works:

S – SCRIPTURE
Physically write out the Bible verse
You’ll be amazed at what God will reveal to you when you
slow down to write or meditate on what you are reading!

O – OBSERVATION
What do you see in the verses you’re reading?
Who is the audience? Is there a repetition of words? What words stand out to you? What is the main lesson or theme?

A – APPLICATION
When God’s Word becomes personal
What is God saying to me today? How can I apply what I just read to my life? Are there any changes I need to make?

P – PRAYER
Pray God’s Word back to Him
If He has revealed something to you during this time in His
Word, pray about it. Confess if He has revealed some sin that is in your life. Take time to thank Him for His goodness in your life.

Today’s SOAP Devotional - By Colby F. Maier

S - SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 6:8 (NIV)

"Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, 'Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?' And I said, 'Here am I. Send me!'"

O - OBSERVATION:

In this verse, we witness a remarkable moment in the life of the prophet Isaiah. After experiencing a vision of God’s holiness and recognizing his own unworthiness, Isaiah is cleansed by a burning coal from the altar. It is at this point of purification that Isaiah hears the voice of the Lord asking, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” Without hesitation, Isaiah responds, “Here am I. Send me!” This is a moment that not only marks Isaiah’s prophetic ministry, but also highlights the importance of human response to God’s call. Isaiah’s willingness to answer God’s call, despite knowing the challenges ahead, demonstrates his unshakeable courage and commitment.

A - APPLICATION:

In our lives today, God is still asking, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” The call may not come in a dramatic vision like Isaiah’s, but it is just as real and significant. God calls each of us to various tasks, whether it’s sharing the gospel with a neighbor, standing up for what’s right, or serving those in need. The question is: how will we respond?

Isaiah’s response teaches us a few key lessons:

  1. Be Open to God’s Call: We must be willing to listen and respond when God speaks. This means being open to His leading, even if it takes us outside of our comfort zones.

  2. Be Courageous Amid Challenges: Responding to God’s call often requires courage. Like Isaiah, we may face resistance, but we can trust that God will equip and empower those whom He has called and sent.

  3. Be Committed to God’s Mission: Once we say “yes” to God, we must be committed to the assignment He has given us. Isaiah’s response wasn’t a one-time act; it was the beginning of a lifelong mission. In the same way, our response to God’s call must be marked by ongoing commitment and persistence.

As we reflect on today’s reading, ask yourself these questions: What is God calling me to do? How can I respond with the same courage and commitment that Isaiah demonstrated? Am I ready and willing to say, “Here am I. Send me”?

P - PRAYER:

Lord, we hear Your call, and we desire to respond with the same readiness and courage that Isaiah displayed. Open our hearts to your leading, even when it challenges us to go beyond that which is comfortable and familiar. Help us carry the weight of a willing heart, ready to step into any unknown arena if it means being obedient to You. Here I am Lord, send me! In Jesus' name, Amen.

Let’s keep the momentum and continue growing in God’s Word together—see you again on Friday! 🙏🙏
