Today’s SOAP Devotional
S - SCRIPTURE: Mark 15:37-38
“And Jesus uttered a loud cry and breathed his last. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom.”
O - OBSERVATION:
Mark 15 captures the darkest yet most beautiful moment in history. Jesus, the Son of God, willingly endured betrayal, mockery, and unimaginable suffering. The Roman soldiers mocked Him as the "King of the Jews," yet their jeers couldn’t change the truth of His royalty. On the cross, as Jesus took His final breath, the temple curtain was torn. This wasn’t just a dramatic scene—it was a divine declaration. The curtain symbolized the barrier between a holy God and sinful humanity, but in His death, Jesus made the way for us to enter into the holy presence of God. The tearing of the curtain from top to bottom was God’s way of saying, “I’m coming to you.”
A - APPLICATION:
When we read about Jesus’ sacrifice, it’s easy to feel detached, as if it’s just a distant story. But Mark 15 isn’t just history; it’s personal. Jesus endured the cross for you. For me. For every broken sinner who would ever live. His death didn’t just make a way to God—it opened the door for us to have a real, intimate relationship with Him.
Ask yourself today: Am I living as though the curtain is still there? Do I approach God timidly, as if I need to earn His love, or do I walk confidently into His presence, knowing that Jesus has already paid the price?
Let this truth sink in: There’s no separation anymore. Jesus has done it all. Now it’s our turn to live boldly for Him, resting in His finished work and sharing this incredible news with others.
P - PRAYER:
Jesus, thank You for enduring the cross for me. Thank You for tearing the curtain and inviting me into the presence of the Father. I don’t want to take Your sacrifice for granted. Help me to live in the freedom You’ve given me and to boldly share Your love with the world. I surrender my life to You again today. Amen.
What is a SOAP?
For each day of Bible reading, we do a SOAP devotional to go deeper into the word of God. We always provide an example SOAP from one of our authors, but we highly encourage you to do your own SOAP with today’s reading. God wants to speak to you personally, and will highlight a passage of today’s reading that’s just for you.
Here’s how it works:
S – SCRIPTURE
Physically write out the Bible verse
You’ll be amazed at what God will reveal to you when you
slow down to write or meditate on what you are reading!
O – OBSERVATION
What do you see in the verses you’re reading?
Who is the audience? Is there a repetition of words? What words stand out to you? What is the main lesson or theme?
A – APPLICATION
When God’s Word becomes personal
What is God saying to me today? How can I apply what I just read to my life? Are there any changes I need to make?
P – PRAYER
Pray God’s Word back to Him
If He has revealed something to you during this time in His
Word, pray about it. Confess if He has revealed some sin that is in your life. Take time to thank Him for His goodness in your life.
