🙏 SOAP DEVOTIONAL
SOAP: scripture, observation, application, prayer
Today’s SOAP Devotional by Jacob Coyne
S - SCRIPTURE: Luke 8:15
“As for that in the good soil, they are those who, hearing the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bear fruit with patience.”
O - OBSERVATION:
Jesus’ parable of the sower reveals the condition of our hearts. The seed of God’s Word flourishes in good soil—a heart that is honest, open, and patient. Advent is a time to till the soil of our hearts, removing distractions and making space for God’s Word to take root and grow.
A - APPLICATION:
Is your heart prepared to receive God’s Word this Advent season? What distractions or sins need to be cleared away to make room for Him? Spend time today asking God to cultivate a heart that is open to Him.
P - PRAYER:
Lord, I want my heart to be good soil for Your Word. Remove anything that hinders me from hearing and obeying You, and help me to bear fruit for Your glory.
Theological Quote:
“The Word of God is not received by the careless listener, but by the heart that longs for truth.” – John Chrysostom
Christmas Hymn:
“Let earth receive her King; let every heart prepare Him room.” – Joy to the World
Declaration of Truth:
Jesus, You are the Word of God made flesh. I will hold fast to Your truth and let it bear fruit in my life.
What is a SOAP?
For each day of Bible reading, we do a SOAP devotional to go deeper into the word of God. We always provide an example SOAP from one of our authors, but we highly encourage you to do your own SOAP with today’s reading. God wants to speak to you personally, and will highlight a passage of today’s reading that’s just for you.
Here’s how it works:
S – SCRIPTURE
Physically write out the Bible verse
You’ll be amazed at what God will reveal to you when you
slow down to write or meditate on what you are reading!
O – OBSERVATION
What do you see in the verses you’re reading?
Who is the audience? Is there a repetition of words? What words stand out to you? What is the main lesson or theme?
A – APPLICATION
When God’s Word becomes personal
What is God saying to me today? How can I apply what I just read to my life? Are there any changes I need to make?
P – PRAYER
Pray God’s Word back to Him
If He has revealed something to you during this time in His
Word, pray about it. Confess if He has revealed some sin that is in your life. Take time to thank Him for His goodness in your life.
We hope that you took one step further in your walk with Jesus today. 🙏
