🙏 SOAP DEVOTIONAL
SOAP: scripture, observation, application, prayer

Today’s SOAP Devotional by Jacob Coyne

S - SCRIPTURE:  Luke 5:10-11

“And Jesus said to Simon, ‘Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.’ And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed Him.”

O - OBSERVATION:

Simon Peter’s encounter with Jesus changes everything. After witnessing a miraculous catch of fish, Peter falls to his knees, overwhelmed by his unworthiness. But Jesus doesn’t push Peter away; He calls him closer. The invitation is bold: leave everything and follow Me. Peter obeys, leaving his livelihood and security behind to walk with Jesus. Christmas reminds us that Jesus still calls us to follow Him, leaving behind what’s comfortable to pursue His purpose.

A - APPLICATION:

Is there something you’re holding onto that’s keeping you from fully following Jesus? Ask Him to help you release it, trusting that His plans are greater than your own.

P - PRAYER:

Jesus, I want to follow You fully. Help me to leave behind anything that keeps me from Your purpose. Thank You for calling me, despite my weaknesses, to be part of Your mission.

Theological Quote:
“God does not call the qualified; He qualifies the called.” – Dwight L. Moody

Christmas Hymn:
“Leave your sheep and leave your lambs, rise up, shepherd, and follow.” – Rise Up, Shepherd, and Follow

Declaration of Truth:
Jesus, You are my Lord and my purpose. I will follow You wherever You lead, trusting Your plans for my life.

What is a SOAP?

For each day of Bible reading, we do a SOAP devotional to go deeper into the word of God. We always provide an example SOAP from one of our authors, but we highly encourage you to do your own SOAP with today’s reading. God wants to speak to you personally, and will highlight a passage of today’s reading that’s just for you.

Here’s how it works:

S – SCRIPTURE
Physically write out the Bible verse
You’ll be amazed at what God will reveal to you when you
slow down to write or meditate on what you are reading!

O – OBSERVATION
What do you see in the verses you’re reading?
Who is the audience? Is there a repetition of words? What words stand out to you? What is the main lesson or theme?

A – APPLICATION
When God’s Word becomes personal
What is God saying to me today? How can I apply what I just read to my life? Are there any changes I need to make?

P – PRAYER
Pray God’s Word back to Him
If He has revealed something to you during this time in His
Word, pray about it. Confess if He has revealed some sin that is in your life. Take time to thank Him for His goodness in your life.

We hope that you took one step further in your walk with Jesus today. 🙏
