🙏 SOAP DEVOTIONAL
SOAP: scripture, observation, application, prayer

Today’s SOAP Devotional by Jacob Coyne

S - SCRIPTURE:  Luke 4:18

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives.”

O - OBSERVATION:

Jesus begins His ministry with this bold declaration: He is the fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecy. His mission is to bring good news, freedom, and healing to a broken world. The heart of Christmas is this mission fulfilled—Jesus coming to save the lost and restore the broken.

A - APPLICATION:

Who in your life is in need of Jesus’ good news? Pray for them today, and ask God to show you how you can bring His love and hope to them this week.

P - PRAYER:

Jesus, thank You for bringing freedom and healing into my life. Use me to carry Your good news to those who are hurting and in need.

Theological Quote:
“God became man so that man might become like God.” – St. Athanasius

Christmas Hymn:
“O holy Child of Bethlehem, descend to us, we pray. Cast out our sin and enter in, be born in us today.” – O Little Town of Bethlehem

Declaration of Truth:
Jesus, You are the good news. You are my freedom and my healing, and I will proclaim Your love to the world.

What is a SOAP?

For each day of Bible reading, we do a SOAP devotional to go deeper into the word of God. We always provide an example SOAP from one of our authors, but we highly encourage you to do your own SOAP with today’s reading. God wants to speak to you personally, and will highlight a passage of today’s reading that’s just for you.

Here’s how it works:

S – SCRIPTURE
Physically write out the Bible verse
You’ll be amazed at what God will reveal to you when you
slow down to write or meditate on what you are reading!

O – OBSERVATION
What do you see in the verses you’re reading?
Who is the audience? Is there a repetition of words? What words stand out to you? What is the main lesson or theme?

A – APPLICATION
When God’s Word becomes personal
What is God saying to me today? How can I apply what I just read to my life? Are there any changes I need to make?

P – PRAYER
Pray God’s Word back to Him
If He has revealed something to you during this time in His
Word, pray about it. Confess if He has revealed some sin that is in your life. Take time to thank Him for His goodness in your life.

We hope that you took one step further in your walk with Jesus today. 🙏
