🙏 SOAP DEVOTIONAL
SOAP: scripture, observation, application, prayer
Today’s SOAP Devotional by Jacob Coyne
S - SCRIPTURE: Luke 2:10-11
“And the angel said to them, ‘Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day… a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.’”
O - OBSERVATION:
The first people to hear about Jesus’ birth weren’t kings or religious leaders but shepherds—ordinary, overlooked people. The angel announces that this good news is for all people. Christmas isn’t just for the elite; it’s for the broken, the forgotten, and the humble. This Savior has come to bring joy and salvation to the whole world, including you and me.
A - APPLICATION:
Take a moment to reflect on how Jesus has brought joy and salvation to your life. Who in your life needs to hear this good news? Ask God for the boldness to share the hope of Christmas with them this week.
P - PRAYER:
Jesus, thank You for coming to earth for me. Thank You for bringing salvation, not just to the world, but to my life. Help me to carry this good news to those who need it most.
Theological Quote:
“Christ became what we are so that we might become what He is.” – Athanasius
Christmas Hymn:
“Hark! The herald angels sing, glory to the newborn King!” – Hark! The Herald Angels Sing
Declaration of Truth:
Jesus, You are my Savior and my joy. Your birth is good news for all people, and I will declare it with my life.
What is a SOAP?
For each day of Bible reading, we do a SOAP devotional to go deeper into the word of God. We always provide an example SOAP from one of our authors, but we highly encourage you to do your own SOAP with today’s reading. God wants to speak to you personally, and will highlight a passage of today’s reading that’s just for you.
Here’s how it works:
S – SCRIPTURE
Physically write out the Bible verse
You’ll be amazed at what God will reveal to you when you
slow down to write or meditate on what you are reading!
O – OBSERVATION
What do you see in the verses you’re reading?
Who is the audience? Is there a repetition of words? What words stand out to you? What is the main lesson or theme?
A – APPLICATION
When God’s Word becomes personal
What is God saying to me today? How can I apply what I just read to my life? Are there any changes I need to make?
P – PRAYER
Pray God’s Word back to Him
If He has revealed something to you during this time in His
Word, pray about it. Confess if He has revealed some sin that is in your life. Take time to thank Him for His goodness in your life.
We hope that you took one step further in your walk with Jesus today. 🙏
