🙏 SOAP DEVOTIONAL
SOAP: scripture, observation, application, prayer
Today’s SOAP Devotional by Jacob Coyne
S - SCRIPTURE: Luke 1
Luke 1:37-38 “For nothing will be impossible with God. And Mary said, ‘Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.’”
O - OBSERVATION:
Advent begins with Mary’s humble yes to God. The angel announces a miracle: she will bear the Son of God. Mary doesn’t question God’s ability, even though the promise seems impossible. Instead, she responds with trust: “Let it be to me according to Your word.” Her faith reminds us that God works beyond our understanding, calling us to trust His power and plan.
A - APPLICATION:
What area of your life feels impossible right now? Is there something God is calling you to trust Him with, even if you can’t see the outcome? Like Mary, surrender your “yes” to Him today, knowing that His promises never fail.
P - PRAYER:
Lord, I believe that nothing is impossible for You. I surrender my fears, my plans, and my doubts into Your hands. Help me to trust Your promises and follow You with faith like Mary.
Theological Quote:
“Christ was not ashamed to be born of a woman, for He came to free both men and women.” – St. Ambrose
Christmas Hymn:
“Come, Thou long-expected Jesus, born to set Thy people free.” – Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus
Declaration of Truth:
Jesus, You are the fulfillment of every promise. You are the God of the impossible, and I trust You with my life.
What is a SOAP?
For each day of Bible reading, we do a SOAP devotional to go deeper into the word of God. We always provide an example SOAP from one of our authors, but we highly encourage you to do your own SOAP with today’s reading. God wants to speak to you personally, and will highlight a passage of today’s reading that’s just for you.
Here’s how it works:
S – SCRIPTURE
Physically write out the Bible verse
You’ll be amazed at what God will reveal to you when you
slow down to write or meditate on what you are reading!
O – OBSERVATION
What do you see in the verses you’re reading?
Who is the audience? Is there a repetition of words? What words stand out to you? What is the main lesson or theme?
A – APPLICATION
When God’s Word becomes personal
What is God saying to me today? How can I apply what I just read to my life? Are there any changes I need to make?
P – PRAYER
Pray God’s Word back to Him
If He has revealed something to you during this time in His
Word, pray about it. Confess if He has revealed some sin that is in your life. Take time to thank Him for His goodness in your life.
We hope that you took one step further in your walk with Jesus today. 🙏
