SOAP: scripture, observation, application, prayer.
Today’s SOAP Devotional
S - SCRIPTURE: Luke 11:9-10 (NIV)
"So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened."
O - OBSERVATION:
Jesus teaches us to approach God boldly and persistently. These verses remind us that prayer isn’t passive—it requires active faith. Jesus invites us into a relentless pursuit of God's heart, promising that our persistent asking, seeking, and knocking are not in vain. Our Heavenly Father deeply desires to give good gifts, especially the Holy Spirit, to those who ask Him.
A - APPLICATION:
Are you actively seeking God, or have your prayers become passive or routine? Today, commit to approaching God with renewed boldness and persistence. Let your prayer life become dynamic and full of expectation, believing that your Father in heaven hears you and longs to respond.
Action Steps:
Pray Boldly: Write down one specific prayer request you have hesitated to bring to God. Boldly pray for this daily over the next week.
Seek Persistently: Dedicate ten intentional minutes daily this week to seeking God's presence through prayer and scripture reading.
Knock Expectantly: Identify an area where you feel stuck spiritually or relationally. Take practical action to "knock on the door," believing God will open new opportunities.
P - PRAYER:
Father, thank You for inviting me into an active, vibrant relationship with You. I choose today to approach You boldly, persistently, and expectantly. Open doors that have felt closed, and pour out Your Spirit as I seek You wholeheartedly. In Jesus' name, Amen.
What is a SOAP?
For each day of Bible reading, we do a SOAP devotional to go deeper into the word of God. We always provide an example SOAP from one of our authors, but we highly encourage you to do your own SOAP with today’s reading. God wants to speak to you personally, and will highlight a passage of today’s reading that’s just for you.
Here’s how it works:
S – SCRIPTURE
Physically write out the Bible verse
You’ll be amazed at what God will reveal to you when you
slow down to write or meditate on what you are reading!
O – OBSERVATION
What do you see in the verses you’re reading?
Who is the audience? Is there a repetition of words? What words stand out to you? What is the main lesson or theme?
A – APPLICATION
When God’s Word becomes personal
What is God saying to me today? How can I apply what I just read to my life? Are there any changes I need to make?
P – PRAYER
Pray God’s Word back to Him
If He has revealed something to you during this time in His
Word, pray about it. Confess if He has revealed some sin that is in your life. Take time to thank Him for His goodness in your life.
