🙏 SOAP DEVOTIONAL
SOAP: scripture, observation, application, prayer
Today’s SOAP Devotional by Jacob Coyne
S - SCRIPTURE: John 10:10
"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." – John 10:10 (NIV)
O - OBSERVATION:
In this verse, Jesus contrasts His purpose with that of the thief, a symbol of evil and deception. The thief's objective is to take away, to harm, and to bring about ruin. In contrast, Jesus comes to give—to offer life that is rich, complete, and fulfilling. The “fullness of life” Jesus speaks of here isn’t merely physical or financial abundance; it’s a deep, spiritual abundance, a life that thrives in relationship with God. Jesus is revealing His heart for us: that we would live a life of true peace, purpose, and joy rooted in Him.
A - APPLICATION:
This verse invites us to examine what we allow into our lives. Are there “thieves” that steal our joy, kill our hope, or destroy our peace? Jesus promises that by turning to Him, we can find a life that overflows. To walk in this fullness, we need to let go of distractions and pursue a relationship with Him that fills our hearts and minds. Today, I can ask Jesus to help me recognize and remove anything stealing my peace or joy and lean into His presence for the abundant life He offers.
P - PRAYER:
Jesus, thank You for coming to give me life to the fullest. Help me recognize the thieves that seek to rob me of Your peace and joy. Give me the courage to remove these distractions and pursue You wholeheartedly. I want to walk in the fullness of life that only You can give. Amen.
What is a SOAP?
For each day of Bible reading, we do a SOAP devotional to go deeper into the word of God. We always provide an example SOAP from one of our authors, but we highly encourage you to do your own SOAP with today’s reading. God wants to speak to you personally, and will highlight a passage of today’s reading that’s just for you.
Here’s how it works:
S – SCRIPTURE
Physically write out the Bible verse
You’ll be amazed at what God will reveal to you when you
slow down to write or meditate on what you are reading!
O – OBSERVATION
What do you see in the verses you’re reading?
Who is the audience? Is there a repetition of words? What words stand out to you? What is the main lesson or theme?
A – APPLICATION
When God’s Word becomes personal
What is God saying to me today? How can I apply what I just read to my life? Are there any changes I need to make?
P – PRAYER
Pray God’s Word back to Him
If He has revealed something to you during this time in His
Word, pray about it. Confess if He has revealed some sin that is in your life. Take time to thank Him for His goodness in your life.
We hope that you took one step further in your walk with Jesus today. 🙏
