🙏 SOAP DEVOTIONAL
SOAP: scripture, observation, application, prayer.
Today’s SOAP Devotional
S - SCRIPTURE: Luke 7:47 (ESV)
"Therefore, I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven—for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little."
O - OBSERVATION:
In Luke 7, we encounter a woman who had a reputation—one that made others recoil in judgment. But when she approached Jesus, she wasn’t met with condemnation; she was met with grace. She wept at His feet, wiped them with her hair, kissed them, and poured out expensive perfume in an act of radical love and surrender. The Pharisees scoffed, questioning Jesus’ response to such a sinner. Yet Jesus saw what they couldn’t: a heart fully aware of its desperate need for mercy. Her love overflowed because she understood the depth of her forgiveness.
Meanwhile, the Pharisee Simon had Jesus at his table but not in his heart. He didn’t recognize his own need for grace, and as a result, his love was small. The contrast is clear: The greater we understand our need for Jesus, the deeper our love for Him becomes.
A - APPLICATION:
The way we love Jesus is directly tied to how much we recognize our need for Him. The woman in Luke 7 was unashamed in her worship because she knew how much she had been forgiven. Have we lost that wonder? Have we grown too comfortable at the table with Jesus while missing the magnitude of His mercy?
Let this be a wake-up call: If your love for Jesus feels cold, it may be time to remember what He saved you from. Take time today to reflect on His mercy, and let gratitude ignite fresh devotion.
P - PRAYER:
Jesus, I don’t want to love You half-heartedly. Remind me of the depths of Your grace and stir in me a love that overflows. Let me never grow numb to the price You paid for my forgiveness. I give You my whole heart in surrender. Amen.
