🙏 SOAP DEVOTIONAL
SOAP: scripture, observation, application, prayer

Today’s SOAP Devotional by Jacob Coyne

S - SCRIPTURE: Daniel 6:21-22 (NIV):

"Daniel answered, ‘May the king live forever! My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, Your Majesty.’”

O - OBSERVATION:

In Daniel’s response in Daniel 6, we find a profound calm that flows from a life deeply anchored in God. Though unjustly condemned, Daniel does not retaliate or defend himself, instead he speaks from a place of quiet assurance. His innocence before God has been his continual practice, not as a means to secure divine favor, but as a natural outworking of his life with God. Daniel’s words reflect an awareness of a reality beyond his present circumstances: the reality of God’s kingdom at work, even in the midst of persecution and suffering. Through Daniel, we see that a life rooted in trust allows us to engage the world around us with peace and steadfastness, regardless of the challenges we face.

A - APPLICATION:

Daniel’s story calls us to consider our own response to life’s trials and threats. Often, our instinct is to defend, to justify, to assert our own strength. But Daniel models a different way, the way of one who is deeply grounded in God’s presence. His trust and integrity enable him to respond not from a place of fear, but from peace. Today, let us practice this life of alignment with God, choosing to act from our deep trust in His goodness rather than our need to control outcomes. In doing so, we open ourselves to experience God’s sustaining power in ways we may never anticipate.

P - PRAYER:

Father, guide us into this life of quiet confidence, where we rest securely in your presence and act from your peace. Teach us to be steadfast, like Daniel, and to live each moment in awareness of your heavenly kingdom. May our hearts be anchored in your goodness, free from fear and anxious striving, trusting that You are with us in every trial. Help us to live with integrity and humility, and to reflect a non-anxious presence in a world that so often lacks peace. Strengthen our faith, Lord, and let our lives be a testimony of your faithful presence. Amen.

What is a SOAP?

For each day of Bible reading, we do a SOAP devotional to go deeper into the word of God. We always provide an example SOAP from one of our authors, but we highly encourage you to do your own SOAP with today’s reading. God wants to speak to you personally, and will highlight a passage of today’s reading that’s just for you.

Here’s how it works:

S – SCRIPTURE
Physically write out the Bible verse
You’ll be amazed at what God will reveal to you when you
slow down to write or meditate on what you are reading!

O – OBSERVATION
What do you see in the verses you’re reading?
Who is the audience? Is there a repetition of words? What words stand out to you? What is the main lesson or theme?

A – APPLICATION
When God’s Word becomes personal
What is God saying to me today? How can I apply what I just read to my life? Are there any changes I need to make?

P – PRAYER
Pray God’s Word back to Him
If He has revealed something to you during this time in His
Word, pray about it. Confess if He has revealed some sin that is in your life. Take time to thank Him for His goodness in your life.

We hope that you took one step further in your walk with Jesus today. 🙏
