🙏 SOAP DEVOTIONAL
SOAP: scripture, observation, application, prayer

Today’s SOAP Devotional by Jacob Coyne

S - SCRIPTURE: Ezekiel 37:4-6 (ESV)

"Then he said to me, 'Prophesy over these bones, and say to them, O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord God to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live. And I will lay sinews upon you, and will cause flesh to come upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live, and you shall know that I am the Lord.'"

O - OBSERVATION:

The prophet Ezekiel was led by God to a valley filled with dry bones, a haunting picture of death and desolation. God’s question, “Can these bones live?” wasn’t just about physical resurrection; it was a question of faith in God’s power to bring hope, life, and restoration to what seems utterly lost. As Ezekiel obeyed and prophesied, God moved. Breath filled the bones, flesh formed, and life surged into what was once lifeless. This powerful imagery symbolizes the restoration of Israel, yet it also speaks to our own spiritual lives—no situation is beyond God’s reach, no life too far gone for His renewal.

A - APPLICATION:

We all face “dry bone” situations—times when hope feels dead, dreams seem buried, or faith feels faint. But God specializes in bringing life out of death. Just as He commanded Ezekiel to speak His word over the bones, we are called to stand in faith and declare life over what feels lost. This requires our participation: God asks us to trust, to pray, to believe even when we can’t see. Just like the breath of God transformed that valley, His Spirit can revive and renew our weary hearts. Let this passage remind us that God’s power is limitless, and His desire is to bring us back to life, spiritually, emotionally, and even physically.

P - PRAYER:

Lord, You are the God who brings life to the dead and hope to the hopeless. I ask You to breathe life into the areas of my life that feel dry and weary. Help me to believe that nothing is too hard for You. Give me the courage to speak Your promises over my life and trust that You can restore anything. Thank You for being the God of resurrection, renewal, and relentless love. In Jesus' name, Amen.

What is a SOAP?

For each day of Bible reading, we do a SOAP devotional to go deeper into the word of God. We always provide an example SOAP from one of our authors, but we highly encourage you to do your own SOAP with today’s reading. God wants to speak to you personally, and will highlight a passage of today’s reading that’s just for you.

Here’s how it works:

S – SCRIPTURE
Physically write out the Bible verse
You’ll be amazed at what God will reveal to you when you
slow down to write or meditate on what you are reading!

O – OBSERVATION
What do you see in the verses you’re reading?
Who is the audience? Is there a repetition of words? What words stand out to you? What is the main lesson or theme?

A – APPLICATION
When God’s Word becomes personal
What is God saying to me today? How can I apply what I just read to my life? Are there any changes I need to make?

P – PRAYER
Pray God’s Word back to Him
If He has revealed something to you during this time in His
Word, pray about it. Confess if He has revealed some sin that is in your life. Take time to thank Him for His goodness in your life.

We hope that you took one step further in your walk with Jesus today. 🙏

-Jacob, Colby, and Ryan
