🙏 SOAP DEVOTIONAL
SOAP: scripture, observation, application, prayer.

Today’s SOAP Devotional by Colby F. Maier

S - SCRIPTURE:  Ephesians 1:13-14 (NIV)
"And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory."

O - OBSERVATION:

Paul reminds the Ephesian believers that salvation comes through faith in Christ—not by works, heritage, or status. The gospel of truth brings inclusion into God’s family, and when we believe, God marks us with the Holy Spirit as His own. The Holy Spirit is more than just a helper; He is a seal, a divine guarantee that we belong to God and will one day receive the fullness of our inheritance in Christ.

This passage assures us that our salvation is secure—not because of our own efforts but because God Himself has placed His Spirit within us as a promise of what is to come. Our future is sealed, guaranteed by God, and meant to bring Him glory.

A - APPLICATION:

How often do we live forgetting the security of our salvation? Sometimes, we feel uncertain about God’s love, wondering if we are truly His. But Paul reminds us that the moment we believed, we were sealed—permanently marked as His own.

  • Do I trust that God has secured my future, or do I live in fear of losing my salvation?

  • How does knowing I am sealed by the Holy Spirit affect the way I walk in faith today?

  • If the Holy Spirit is the guarantee of my inheritance, how can I lean into His guidance more?

Knowing that we are God’s possession should fill us with confidence, peace, and boldness in our faith. Today, let’s walk in that assurance, worshiping Him for the guarantee of our redemption.

P - PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, thank You for sealing me with the Holy Spirit and securing my future in You. When doubts creep in, remind me that my salvation is not based on my performance but on Your promise. Help me to live with confidence, knowing that I am Your possession, bought with the blood of Christ. May my life be a reflection of Your glory. In Jesus' name, Amen.

What is a SOAP?

For each day of Bible reading, we do a SOAP devotional to go deeper into the word of God. We always provide an example SOAP from one of our authors, but we highly encourage you to do your own SOAP with today’s reading. God wants to speak to you personally, and will highlight a passage of today’s reading that’s just for you.

Here’s how it works:

S – SCRIPTURE
Physically write out the Bible verse
You’ll be amazed at what God will reveal to you when you
slow down to write or meditate on what you are reading!

O – OBSERVATION
What do you see in the verses you’re reading?
Who is the audience? Is there a repetition of words? What words stand out to you? What is the main lesson or theme?

A – APPLICATION
When God’s Word becomes personal
What is God saying to me today? How can I apply what I just read to my life? Are there any changes I need to make?

P – PRAYER
Pray God’s Word back to Him
If He has revealed something to you during this time in His
Word, pray about it. Confess if He has revealed some sin that is in your life. Take time to thank Him for His goodness in your life.
