Today’s SOAP Devotional - by Colby F. Maier

S - SCRIPTURE:  Galatians 4:4-7

But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, 'Abba, Father.' So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir."

O - OBSERVATION:

These verses highlight God’s intentionality and grace in His plan for salvation. At just the right moment in history, God sent His Son, Jesus, to redeem humanity from the bondage of the law. Through Jesus, we are no longer slaves to sin or the law but are adopted into God’s family as His children. The Spirit within us affirms our identity and gives us an intimate relationship with God, allowing us to call Him "Abba, Father." As heirs, we share in His eternal promises and inheritance.

A - APPLICATION:

This passage invites us to live in the freedom and intimacy that comes from being a child of God. It challenges us to let go of legalistic mindsets, self-reliance, and striving to earn God’s approval. Instead, we are called to embrace our identity as sons and daughters of the King, resting in His grace. This truth should also shape our daily lives—walking with confidence in God’s promises, seeking to live in His Spirit, and sharing the joy of this inheritance with others.

How can you live today as someone who knows they are a beloved child of God? Are there areas in your life where you’re still living as though you’re a slave to sin, fear, or performance? God is inviting you to trust Him and walk in the freedom He has given you through Christ.

P - PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, thank You for adopting me as Your child and giving me the Spirit who reminds me of this truth. Help me to let go of any areas in my life where I’m still living as though I’m enslaved and to fully embrace the freedom and intimacy I have with You. Teach me to rest in Your grace, walk by Your Spirit, and reflect Your love and joy to others. Thank You for the incredible inheritance You’ve given me through Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

What is a SOAP?

For each day of Bible reading, we do a SOAP devotional to go deeper into the word of God. We always provide an example SOAP from one of our authors, but we highly encourage you to do your own SOAP with today’s reading. God wants to speak to you personally, and will highlight a passage of today’s reading that’s just for you.

Here’s how it works:

S – SCRIPTURE
Physically write out the Bible verse
You’ll be amazed at what God will reveal to you when you
slow down to write or meditate on what you are reading!

O – OBSERVATION
What do you see in the verses you’re reading?
Who is the audience? Is there a repetition of words? What words stand out to you? What is the main lesson or theme?

A – APPLICATION
When God’s Word becomes personal
What is God saying to me today? How can I apply what I just read to my life? Are there any changes I need to make?

P – PRAYER
Pray God’s Word back to Him
If He has revealed something to you during this time in His
Word, pray about it. Confess if He has revealed some sin that is in your life. Take time to thank Him for His goodness in your life.

Let’s see Jesus move in and through us,
