🙏 SOAP DEVOTIONAL
SOAP: scripture, observation, application, prayer.
Today’s SOAP Devotional - by Colby F. Maier
S - SCRIPTURE: Mark 13:32-33 (NIV)
“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come.”
O - OBSERVATION:
Jesus’ words remind us that the timing of His return is not ours to know, but ours to prepare for. Life is full of distractions and temptations to grow complacent, yet Jesus calls us to vigilance. Being “on guard” is not about fear, but about living with intentionality, courage, and readiness. This watchfulness transforms daily life into a sacred practice, where even small acts of faithfulness carry eternal weight.
A - APPLICATION:
Examine your life: Where have you grown spiritually inattentive? What habits, relationships, or thoughts need to be realigned with Christ’s call to readiness? Start today by taking one small, deliberate step toward living as if His return matters. This might mean setting aside time to pray, showing kindness where it is difficult, or resisting a temptation that weakens your soul. Watchfulness begins with choosing to live each moment as though it holds eternal significance.
P - PRAYER:
Lord, help me to live with purpose and readiness, trusting in Your timing and staying alert to Your presence. Guard my heart against distractions and apathy, and teach me to see each day as a gift to grow in faithfulness and courage. Amen.
What is a SOAP?
For each day of Bible reading, we do a SOAP devotional to go deeper into the word of God. We always provide an example SOAP from one of our authors, but we highly encourage you to do your own SOAP with today’s reading. God wants to speak to you personally, and will highlight a passage of today’s reading that’s just for you.
Here’s how it works:
S – SCRIPTURE
Physically write out the Bible verse
You’ll be amazed at what God will reveal to you when you
slow down to write or meditate on what you are reading!
O – OBSERVATION
What do you see in the verses you’re reading?
Who is the audience? Is there a repetition of words? What words stand out to you? What is the main lesson or theme?
A – APPLICATION
When God’s Word becomes personal
What is God saying to me today? How can I apply what I just read to my life? Are there any changes I need to make?
P – PRAYER
Pray God’s Word back to Him
If He has revealed something to you during this time in His
Word, pray about it. Confess if He has revealed some sin that is in your life. Take time to thank Him for His goodness in your life.
