🙏 SOAP DEVOTIONAL
SOAP: scripture, observation, application, prayer

For each day of Bible reading, we do a SOAP devotional to go deeper into the word of God. We always provide an example SOAP from one of our authors, but we highly encourage you to do your own SOAP with today’s reading. God wants to speak to you personally, and will highlight a passage of today’s reading that’s just for you.

Here’s how it works:

S – SCRIPTURE
Physically write out the Bible verse
You’ll be amazed at what God will reveal to you when you
slow down to write or meditate on what you are reading!

O – OBSERVATION
What do you see in the verses you’re reading?
Who is the audience? Is there a repetition of words? What words stand out to you? What is the main lesson or theme?

A – APPLICATION
When God’s Word becomes personal
What is God saying to me today? How can I apply what I just read to my life? Are there any changes I need to make?

P – PRAYER
Pray God’s Word back to Him
If He has revealed something to you during this time in His
Word, pray about it. Confess if He has revealed some sin that is in your life. Take time to thank Him for His goodness in your life.

Today’s SOAP Devotional - By Jacob Coyne

S - SCRIPTURE: Matthew 21:12-13 (NIV)

"Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. ‘It is written,’ he said to them, ‘My house will be called a house of prayer, but you are making it ‘a den of robbers.’”

O - OBSERVATION:

In this passage, Jesus enters the temple and disrupts the usual activity, driving out those who were exploiting the sacred space for personal gain. His actions are a powerful declaration that the temple, God's house, is meant to be a place of prayer, not a marketplace. Jesus’ zeal for the purity of worship is clear; He won’t tolerate anything that distracts or distorts the purpose of this holy place. This scene reminds us that Jesus is passionate about the condition of our hearts and how we approach God. He wants our worship to be sincere and our lives to be aligned with His will, free from the clutter and corruption that can so easily take over.

A - APPLICATION:

Just as Jesus cleared the temple, we need to examine our own lives and ask: What tables need to be overturned in our hearts? Are there areas where we've allowed the pursuit of money, status, or comfort to encroach on our relationship with God? It's easy to let distractions take root, but Jesus invites us to clear out the clutter and refocus on what truly matters—intimacy with Him.

This week, take time to reflect on your personal “temple.” Is there anything that has taken the place of prayer or diverted your attention from God? It could be an obsession with work, a hidden habit, or even the good things in life that have become ultimate things. Let’s ask Jesus to overturn the tables in our hearts, removing anything that hinders our connection with Him. Remember, His desire is for our lives to be a “house of prayer”—a space where we meet with Him in authenticity and love.

P - PRAYER:

Jesus, thank You for Your passionate love for us and Your desire for our hearts to be fully devoted to You. We ask that You reveal any areas in our lives that need cleansing, where we’ve allowed distractions or sin to take root. Help us to prioritize our relationship with You above all else. May our lives be a true reflection of Your holiness, a place where Your Spirit dwells and where prayer flows freely. We surrender to Your work in us, trusting that You will bring healing, restoration, and deeper intimacy with You. Amen.

We hope that you took one step further in your walk with Jesus today. See you tomorrow! 🙏
