🙏 SOAP DEVOTIONAL
SOAP: scripture, observation, application, prayer

Today’s SOAP Devotional by Jacob Coyne

S - SCRIPTURE: 1 John 3:1

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.”

O - OBSERVATION:

John's words are a profound reminder of the incredible privilege it is to be called a child of God. This is not just a title, but an identity rooted in the lavish love of the Father. The world may not recognize us as God’s children because it does not recognize Him, but our identity is secure. The passage continues to challenge us to live as God’s children, practicing righteousness and purifying ourselves, just as He is pure. It also warns us against sin and urges us to love one another deeply, for love is the evidence that we belong to God.

A - APPLICATION:

This chapter calls us to reflect on our identity in Christ. If we are truly children of God, our lives should reflect His character. This means actively rejecting sin and choosing love, even when it’s difficult. Today, I can respond to God’s lavish love by asking:

  • Am I living in a way that reflects my identity as God’s child?

  • Am I loving others with the same sacrificial love I’ve received from the Father?

Let this truth sink in: You are loved beyond measure and chosen to be part of God’s family. Walk confidently in that identity today, living as a beacon of His love.

P - PRAYER:

Father, thank You for Your extravagant love that calls me Your child. Help me to walk in the identity You’ve given me, rejecting sin and choosing to love others as You have loved me. Purify my heart, and may my life reflect the beauty of being Yours. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

What is a SOAP?

For each day of Bible reading, we do a SOAP devotional to go deeper into the word of God. We always provide an example SOAP from one of our authors, but we highly encourage you to do your own SOAP with today’s reading. God wants to speak to you personally, and will highlight a passage of today’s reading that’s just for you.

Here’s how it works:

S – SCRIPTURE
Physically write out the Bible verse
You’ll be amazed at what God will reveal to you when you
slow down to write or meditate on what you are reading!

O – OBSERVATION
What do you see in the verses you’re reading?
Who is the audience? Is there a repetition of words? What words stand out to you? What is the main lesson or theme?

A – APPLICATION
When God’s Word becomes personal
What is God saying to me today? How can I apply what I just read to my life? Are there any changes I need to make?

P – PRAYER
Pray God’s Word back to Him
If He has revealed something to you during this time in His
Word, pray about it. Confess if He has revealed some sin that is in your life. Take time to thank Him for His goodness in your life.

We hope that you took one step further in your walk with Jesus today. 🙏
