🙏 SOAP DEVOTIONAL
SOAP: scripture, observation, application, prayer
For each day of Bible reading, we do a SOAP devotional to go deeper into the word of God. We always provide an example SOAP from one of our authors, but we highly encourage you to do your own SOAP with today’s reading. God wants to speak to you personally, and will highlight a passage of today’s reading that’s just for you.
Here’s how it works:
S – SCRIPTURE
Physically write out the Bible verse
You’ll be amazed at what God will reveal to you when you
slow down to write or meditate on what you are reading!
O – OBSERVATION
What do you see in the verses you’re reading?
Who is the audience? Is there a repetition of words? What words stand out to you? What is the main lesson or theme?
A – APPLICATION
When God’s Word becomes personal
What is God saying to me today? How can I apply what I just read to my life? Are there any changes I need to make?
P – PRAYER
Pray God’s Word back to Him
If He has revealed something to you during this time in His
Word, pray about it. Confess if He has revealed some sin that is in your life. Take time to thank Him for His goodness in your life.
Today’s SOAP Devotional - By Colby F. Maier
S - SCRIPTURE: 1 Corinthians 3:10-11 (ESV)
“According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it. For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ."
O - OBSERVATION:
In this passage, the Apostle Paul emphasizes that the foundation of the Christian faith and life is Jesus Christ. He describes himself as a master builder who has laid this foundation for others to build upon. Paul warns that everyone must be careful how they build on this foundation because it determines the quality and lasting impact of their work. The focus is not just on what we do but on how and why we do it—whether our actions align with the teachings and example of Jesus. The foundation is non-negotiable; it is Christ alone. Our task is to ensure that what we build upon this foundation reflects the character and purposes of God.
A - APPLICATION:
As followers of Jesus, our lives, actions, and ministries are built upon the foundation of Christ. These verses challenge us to evaluate what we are building in our daily lives—our relationships, careers, ministries, and even in our discipleship. Are we building with care, using materials that will last—like love, truth, and integrity? Or are we careless, using lesser materials that won't endure the trials of life and the final judgment?
The Scripture reminds us that everything we do must be rooted in Christ. When our actions, decisions, and goals are founded on Him, they have the potential to make a lasting impact. We must ask ourselves: Is Christ truly the foundation of all I do? Am I investing in what truly matters, or am I focused on temporary, lesser things?
Take a moment now to write down one area of your life where you want to build more intentionally on the foundation of Christ. Keep it visible this week as a reminder to take practical steps in aligning that area with His teachings.
P - PRAYER:
Lord Jesus, you are the only true foundation upon which I can build my life. Help me to build wisely and with great care, using the materials of love, truth, integrity and compassion. Show me where I need to make changes so that everything I do reflects your heart and purposes. May my life and work be pleasing to you and make a lasting impact for Your kingdom. In Your name, I pray, Amen.
We hope that you took one step further in your walk with Jesus today. See you on Wednesday! 🙏
