🙏 SOAP DEVOTIONAL
SOAP: scripture, observation, application, prayer

Today’s SOAP Devotional by Jacob Coyne

S - SCRIPTURE: John 20:29

""Then Jesus told him, 'Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.'”

O - OBSERVATION:

This passage captures a pivotal moment after Jesus’ resurrection. Thomas, who doubted Jesus’ return, insisted on seeing and touching Jesus' wounds before believing. When Jesus appears and offers Thomas the opportunity to touch His hands and side, Thomas responds with a profound confession: “My Lord and my God!” Jesus acknowledges Thomas's belief but extends a greater blessing to those who will believe in Him without requiring physical proof. This verse speaks directly to us today as believers who haven’t seen Jesus with our physical eyes but trust in Him through faith.

A - APPLICATION:

Faith doesn’t always demand tangible evidence. Like Thomas, we often long for visible proof of God’s presence in our lives—answered prayers, miraculous signs, or clear direction. Yet, Jesus calls us to trust Him in the unseen moments.

Ask yourself: Where am I struggling to trust Jesus because I can’t “see” Him working?

Believing without seeing is an act of trust that opens the door for a deeper relationship with Him. It invites us to experience His presence in the everyday—through the Word, the Holy Spirit, and the testimony of His work in others. When we choose to believe despite uncertainty, we step into the blessing Jesus promised: a faith that sees beyond what’s visible.

This week, lean into trust. Write down prayers and declarations of faith over areas where you’re struggling. Meditate on God’s promises and remember that His unseen hand is always working for your good.

P - PRAYER:

Jesus, I thank You for Your words to Thomas and the promise of blessing for those who believe without seeing. Strengthen my faith in the moments when I doubt and remind me of Your faithfulness in my life. Help me trust in Your unseen presence and to walk by faith, not by sight. Amen.

What is a SOAP?

For each day of Bible reading, we do a SOAP devotional to go deeper into the word of God. We always provide an example SOAP from one of our authors, but we highly encourage you to do your own SOAP with today’s reading. God wants to speak to you personally, and will highlight a passage of today’s reading that’s just for you.

Here’s how it works:

S – SCRIPTURE
Physically write out the Bible verse
You’ll be amazed at what God will reveal to you when you
slow down to write or meditate on what you are reading!

O – OBSERVATION
What do you see in the verses you’re reading?
Who is the audience? Is there a repetition of words? What words stand out to you? What is the main lesson or theme?

A – APPLICATION
When God’s Word becomes personal
What is God saying to me today? How can I apply what I just read to my life? Are there any changes I need to make?

P – PRAYER
Pray God’s Word back to Him
If He has revealed something to you during this time in His
Word, pray about it. Confess if He has revealed some sin that is in your life. Take time to thank Him for His goodness in your life.
