🙏 SOAP DEVOTIONAL
SOAP: scripture, observation, application, prayer
Today’s SOAP Devotional — Colby F. Maier
S - SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 65:17-19 (NIV):
"See, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind. But be glad and rejoice forever in what I will create, for I will create Jerusalem to be a delight and its people a joy. I will rejoice over Jerusalem and take delight in my people; the sound of weeping and of crying will be heard in it no more."
O - OBSERVATION:
This passage speaks of God’s promise to renew and restore all things. The old, broken world with its suffering will one day be forgotten, replaced by a new creation, yet better still, a new creation filled with great joy. God not only prepares this renewal for His people, but He also takes delight in them. It's a powerful reminder that God’s ultimate plan involves not just the removal of sin and pain, but the creation of something wonderful that brings joy to both God and His people.
A - APPLICATION:
This passage encourages us to shift our focus from present hardships to the hope of God's future renewal of all things. I want you to set aside some time this evening to reflect on God's promises. Write down three things that currently bring joy as a reminder of the good God is doing in your life, and pray for the strength to focus on His future plans rather than the challenges of your present circumstance. By intentionally reflecting on these promises, it will become easier for you to find joy even in moments of hardship and great difficulty.
P - PRAYER:
Father, thank you for the promise of a new heaven and earth. Help us remember that the struggles of today are temporary, and empower us to focus on the joy of what you are preparing for the future. Give us the strength to trust in Your plans and the wisdom to find joy in Your promises. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
What is a SOAP?
For each day of Bible reading, we do a SOAP devotional to go deeper into the word of God. We always provide an example SOAP from one of our authors, but we highly encourage you to do your own SOAP with today’s reading. God wants to speak to you personally, and will highlight a passage of today’s reading that’s just for you.
Here’s how it works:
S – SCRIPTURE
Physically write out the Bible verse
You’ll be amazed at what God will reveal to you when you
slow down to write or meditate on what you are reading!
O – OBSERVATION
What do you see in the verses you’re reading?
Who is the audience? Is there a repetition of words? What words stand out to you? What is the main lesson or theme?
A – APPLICATION
When God’s Word becomes personal
What is God saying to me today? How can I apply what I just read to my life? Are there any changes I need to make?
P – PRAYER
Pray God’s Word back to Him
If He has revealed something to you during this time in His
Word, pray about it. Confess if He has revealed some sin that is in your life. Take time to thank Him for His goodness in your life.
We hope that you took one step further in your walk with Jesus today. 🙏
